At Hospital Lane, our Reception team is made up of highly experienced dental Receptionists, who are also qualified Dental Nurses.
We realise the importance of ensuring that each patient is treated by a Dentist who is exactly right for them. By asking a few questions at our first conversation, we can get a feel for your dental needs and who you would be best suited to seeing at our Clinic. There are ten Dentists at Hospital Lane and they have a wide range of special interests and expertise; it is important that you see the one who is right for you.
New Patients – Your first appointment
We will telephone you or text or email you on the working day before your appointment to remind you of the time. Please tell us how you prefer to be contacted when booking your first appointment.
Our Clinic has a large, free car-park and a designated disabled parking space outside the entrance.
Our friendly Reception team and dedicated Patient Host look forward to welcoming you to our bright, spacious and modern Clinic. The floor to ceiling glass from the entrance porch, through the reception and into the waiting lounge gives an airy and relaxing atmosphere. The lounge is comfortably furnished and you can relax with daily newspapers, the latest magazines and a choice of hot drinks or chilled bottled water before your dental appointment.
We ask you to arrive 10-15 minutes early for your first appointment so that we can show you where everything is and how everything works. We will go through a confidential medical history questionnaire with you on a ‘Clinipad’ tablet (so please bring your glasses with you if you need them) and we will also check all of your contact details. Before you go through for your appointment, we like to take four photographs of you: two facial photographs for recognition purposes, and two ‘smile’ photographs which will form part of your clinical records. These photographs are taken in a private area away from the main waiting lounge, but of course if you would rather not have them taken, please just tell us.
You may need to have a full mouth radiograph (x-ray) taken, when any removable items around the head and neck area (e.g. earrings, necklace, hairclips, hearing aid, glasses, dentures, hair extensions etc) will need to be removed, so please prepare ahead for this.
Your first dental appointment at Hospital Lane will be booked for forty minutes, during which a detailed examination of your mouth, teeth and gums will take place and digital radiographs (x-rays) are usually taken. A printed treatment plan detailing any recommended appointments and fees will be provided and explained during the consultation between yourself and your dentist. Please talk to your dentist about any particular concerns, problems or questions you have and let him or her know if something about your smile bothers you – there may be something we can do about that.
You will be asked to present your treatment plan to Reception so a signed copy can be taken and our Reception team will arrange your next appointments for you.

We value long standing relationships with our patients and continuity of care helps with appropriate treatment planning. To ensure that we have all of your up-to-date details and medical history information, we will ask you to check and update your patient record via a digital 'Clinipad' tablet at regular intervals. After your initial visit, when your full information is added to the system digitally, subsequent appointment updates will be quick and easy.

You will be advised on the recall frequency that your dentist has recommended for you; for most patients, a dental examination is every twelve months and hygienist appointments are every six months. Our automated recall system operates via email, with a follow up reminder by text message one month later. Please ensure that you keep us updated with your current email address and mobile telephone number. If you prefer recalls by post, we can arrange that.
